What Not To Do With Your Rental Skip Bin

Posted on

Whether you need it to perform a spring clean, to do a minor house remodeling project or to carry out some work on your garden, a skip bin is a convenient way to manage your waste. But skip bins will work best for you if they are used correctly, and therefore, you should know what to avoid doing when you rent one.

Overfilling the bin

Typically, every skip bin comes labeled on the top edges to avoid overloading. Never fill up a skip bin any higher than you are supposed to because you can be penalized for it. Aside from that, make sure the load is properly covered to prevent spillage during hauling. If a driver dispatched to pick up your bin finds that it has been loaded past capacity, they are permitted to ask for the removal of the excess content or charge you extra.

Putting the wrong type of waste in the bin

Even though skip bin companies provide a selection of products for different types of waste, there are certain things that shouldn't go into skip bins because they are considered to be unsafe or bad for the environment. These include hazardous substances like lead paints, asbestos-containing cement, chemicals, aerosol cans, explosives, etc. If you are performing a spring clean, you are likely to generate general waste items like clothing, paper, plastics, and so on that will need to be placed inside a general waste skip bin, for example. Make sure not to put any other waste in this type of skip. Otherwise, you risk being fined by your rental company.

Repositioning the bin by yourself

Some skip bins can be really weighty. When a skip bin is delivered to you, it is usually positioned to allow for easy access and retrieval. Therefore, you shouldn't move your skip bin without informing your rental company as specialized equipment may be required to ensure a safe and convenient move. Apart from running the risk of causing damage to your container, a DIY move may also deface your yard, leaving it in need of restorative landscaping. Bear in mind that you will have to pay for the cost of any damage caused while you are using the skip. Your bin provider will make sure that your bin is repositioned without causing any damage to your property. In addition, they will make sure the bin can easily be picked up from the new location.
